Life as an MBA student can be as intensive as it is rewarding, especially during the peak of the semester when exams, group projects, and networking events converge. Here’s a glimpse into a hectic day during “crunch time” in the MBA program at SFU.
7:00 AM — Morning Commute
For students like me who commute long distances, mornings start early, providing a chance to tune into music or cram last-minute studying. With a coffee in hand, I spend the train ride reviewing flashcards for today’s Finance exam. For those living nearby, mornings offer a chance to enjoy a slower start instead.

9:00 AM — Finance Class and Exam Prep
On campus, the cohort is buzzing, reviewing concepts just before the exam begins. Although the pressure is palpable, there is camaraderie as students share strategies and encouragement. By 9:30 AM, it’s game time!
12:00 PM — Team Meeting for Marketing Project
After the exam, there’s a momentary sigh of relief! However, we still have to prepare for the upcoming Marketing Project. The cohort scrambles to meet with group members and make headway on their projects. Working with peers from diverse backgrounds exposes us to global perspectives, enhancing our critical thinking and teamwork skills.

1:30 PM — Post-Exam Plans with the Cohort
Realizing we made it through another intense day, we decide to reward ourselves with hot pot for lunch! It’s a chance to relax, recharge, and mingle. After all, many of the relationships built in this program will carry us through our careers. These moments highlight the fellowship of the program; even with hard work, we take the chance to celebrate our accomplishments.
3:00 PM — Shopping for Cohort Mixer Party
After lunch, I start thinking about Friday’s cohort mixer. The semi-formal party is a chance to connect with peers from different cohorts, further building valuable relationships. A few of us are looking for the best outfit, and luckily, the campus is located near a shopping hub! We browse and find the perfect outfits. Now, we’re ready for Friday!

5:30 PM — Commute Home and Prep for Career Center Event
As the evening winds down, I begin my commute. The train ride is relaxing as I listen to music and admire the cityscape during sunset. Once home, I prepare for the Career Center Event tomorrow, featuring a panel of industry professionals in sales. I review the panelists’ LinkedIn profiles and read the event details. I’m excited about the opportunity to explore this field and network with relevant professionals! I finish up some homework, appreciative of the career opportunities that the Career Center facilitates.
9:30 PM — Reflect and Recharge
After a busy yet rewarding day, I reflect. Days like this capture the essence of SFU’s MBA program — challenging yet fulfilling, offering career opportunities, networking, and moments of celebration.
